Assessment & Treatment
Upper Beach Speech utilizes a dynamic approach to assessment and treatment. Formal and informal assessment measures may be used over several sessions, while concurrently beginning therapy. Goal-setting is then informed by the child’s response to different treatment approaches and strategies, which promotes progress from the first session.
Consultation
Upper Beach Speech provides consultation services to daycare and school staff. This might be requested by the family of a child in childcare/independent school setting or by the school, to plan communication supports for one or more students.

Report Writing
Brief reports, including goals, progress and discharge reports are included as part of on-going assessment and treatment services. On request, longer, formal reports are provided on a fee-for-service basis.
Areas of Practice

Assessment and treatment of speech sound production disorders. Your child’s speech may be difficult to understand or specific speech sounds may be made incorrectly.

Assessment and treatment of delayed language skills or language-based learning disabilities. This includes “late talkers”, limited vocabulary, difficulties with grammar/sentence structure and ability to follow directions.

Targeting phonological and narrative-based skills that are essential for beginner readers. This includes understanding and retelling stories, letter-sound correspondence and sounding-out words.

Making the unwritten rules of conversation and social interaction explicit for children. This may include turn-taking, staying on topic and asking and responding to questions.
